The Cruquius as museum
From the moment of transfer, the Cruquius (a museum) one of the first monuments of Business and Technology in the Netherlands. A lot of money for maintenance was not, so for example the (oak) floor collapsed was almost completely wrecked.
An army of volunteers, supported by many sponsors decided to restoration and to fulfill a cherished desire since 1933, to set the pumping station again in motion. Instead of steam was almost invisible installed a hydraulic system used to operate the machine and so to revive the past.
After many years hard work, they reached a bright high end, the official setting in motion of the old pumping station on June 4, 2002, by Crown Prince Willem Alexander.
Since then Cruquius on the move, a spectacle which visitors can enjoy every day, but they also will be deeply impressed by what was being established. |
